Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Brandon Lockridge was carted off the field after suffering a deep cut to his right knee during the fourth inning of Friday night’s home game against the New York Yankees at American Family Field.
Lockridge sustained the injury while sliding into the outfield wall in an attempt to catch a foul fly ball hit by Cody Bellinger. His knee struck the concrete below the padding at a corner where the wall protrudes, resulting in a severe laceration.
Initial X-rays came back negative, but Brewers manager Pat Murphy described the wound as “a huge laceration.” He added, “It’s going to be awhile. It’s all the way down to his bone, the laceration. So, pretty ugly. … We don’t know the extent of any other damage because there’s so much swelling that we’re going to have to wait until it goes down to get an MRI.”
Before exiting, Lockridge went 2-for-2 with a run scored. He contributed an RBI single during Milwaukee’s four-run second inning off Max Fried and added another run-scoring single in the third, giving the Brewers a 5-0 lead. The Brewers went on to win the game 6-0.
Lockridge entered the game batting .294 with no home runs and 12 RBIs.
