The Beijing Shougang team secured a decisive 88-73 victory over Guangdong in Game 3 of the CBA playoff quarterfinals, eliminating their rivals and booking a semifinal showdown against Shanghai.
From the opening tip, both sides played intense defense. Zhou Qi was an early force, scoring from the free-throw line, while Du Runwang knocked down the game’s first field goal from beyond the arc. Hu Mingxuan added a buzzer-beating three to close the first quarter, giving Guangdong a 21-15 lead.
In the second quarter, Beijing’s Quinn started scoring, and Chen Yingjun made a three-pointer—his 2,272nd career assist, moving him past Lyu Xiaoming into 10th place on the CBA all-time list. Xu Jie drew a charge on Chen, but Guangdong maintained a double-digit lead after another Du Runwang triple. A collision between Hu Mingxuan and Zhao Rui sent the latter to the locker room in pain. Beijing then unleashed an 18-0 run, fueled by threes from Raymon and Zeng Fanbo, plus a Quinn three-point play, to take a 40-35 halftime lead.
After the break, Zhai Xiaochuan and Jemain each hit threes to extend Beijing’s advantage. Zhou Qi answered with a dunk and a block at the other end. Hu Mingxuan’s tough step-back three kept Guangdong close, but Beijing led by eight entering the final period.
In the fourth quarter, Xu Jie remained scoreless. Wang Shaojie returned to the floor and drew a foul, but Zhou Qi swatted his shot emphatically. Zhang Haojia and Chen Yingjun traded threes amid escalating tensions, resulting in double technical fouls. With four minutes left, Beijing held a double-digit lead and began to clear the bench. Quinn hit a deep triple, but Du Runwang fouled out. Zhao Rui drove for a clinching layup, and Chen Yingjun sealed the win at the free-throw line.
Leading scorers for Beijing: Raymon with 6 points, Zhou Qi with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks (dominating the paint), Chen Yingjun with 16 points and 2 assists, Jemain with a triple-double (17 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists, 3 steals), Zeng Fanbo with 15 points and 3 rebounds, and Zhai Xiaochuan with 8 points and 8 rebounds. McGee managed just 2 points on 0-of-6 shooting, and Zhao Rui had 2 points while struggling with his shot.
For Guangdong, Xu Jie finished scoreless on 0-of-3 shooting but grabbed 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Du Runwang tallied 6 points and 3 rebounds, Quinn had 25 points and 8 rebounds despite shooting 1-of-9 from three, Hu Mingxuan added 13 points and 2 assists, and Saric contributed 5 points and 6 rebounds.
Beijing now advances to the semifinals to face the Shanghai Sharks.
