Streaming platforms often face criticism for the quality of their horror movie selections. However, Movistar Plus+ boasts some of the most popular titles from recent years. This time, we’re talking about a Japanese film based on a famous video game, which many compare to another cult horror classic, ‘Ju-On: The Grudge’.

The film is ‘Exit 8’, a 95-minute feature directed by Genki Kawamura. Released in 2025, it quickly became one of the year’s standout movies and is now available on Movistar Plus+ in Spain, after hitting theaters on October 17.

What is ‘Exit 8’ about and who are the main cast members?

“An anonymous person finds themselves trapped in a loop inside a subway station, where they must only move forward when no anomaly appears in their field of vision… or they will return to the start, unable to escape that place,” reads the synopsis of this film adaptation of the video game by Kotake Create, which blends intrigue, fantasy, and horror.

‘Exit 8’, with a screenplay by Genki Kawamura and Hirase Kentaro, features a cast led by Kazunari Ninomiya, along with other well-known Japanese actors such as Yamato Kochi, Naru Asanuma, Nana Komatsu, Kotone Hanase, and others.

Both critics and audiences have expressed positive views on the film. It was nominated at the recent Sitges Festival and received two nominations at the 2026 Japan Academy Awards. “Kawamura’s delightfully crowd-pleasing provocation, produced by Toho, adapts the viral 2023 indie game in an intelligent and surprising way,” wrote Blake Simons in his review for IndieWire.
